Offering Prayer

I was having a bite of lunch at a Christian friend's house last week when the doorbell rang. It was a neighbour, a widow about our age. She had been pacing about her house all morning, totally distracted with worrying about the operation her mother was undergoing for liver cancer. Finally she'd come over to get some company and a change of scene. We chatted and her anxiety was tangible as she gripped her mobile phone, waiting for it to ring with some news, not knowing whether it would be good or bad. After a while she got up to leave and I felt God prompt me so I said: "Shall we just pray before you go?". She sat down again and we prayed, and she said she felt much calmer now. Even that was a lovely answer to prayer but as she left the house her phone rang. Her mother was not only out of theatre but was back on a normal ward, and conscious! We couldn't have asked for a better, quicker, answer to prayer - a real demonstration of God's care.
