Behind closed doors…

Last winter when we had really heavy snow, Ryan and the boys decided to venture across the street to dig out our older neighbour’s driveway. I guess this is a simple act of kindness that most of you would do. We hadn't actually had a proper conversation with our neighbour, who had moved in a few years before. However, when she saw the boys she came out to chat and she was delighted with them! We began making more of an effort to chat to her. Through our conversations she shared with us that she had been so unhappy in her little house and there had been many a tear shed there after some tragic events in her life. She had felt so lonely. This broke my heart as we were only a stones throw away and had no idea of what she was going through.

So we have become good friends - she pops over for a chat and we pop over too. She knits for the boys, she came over to see my middle son on his first day of school and my youngest even calls her Granny!! We invited her along to the family day the Falkirk housegroups had arranged, she came and had a wonderful time. When one of the ladies from our housegroup came over she hugged her and said, "This is my friend!" I was surprised they knew each other, but she had become her friend when she had visited another church and had sat beside her! I was so happy and realised God was definitely in this. She has been shown love and kindness by followers of Jesus and she has been so touched by it. So you never know what goes on behind closed doors, my only regret is that I didn't knock her door sooner.
