Having started a new series for the New Year called "The Things We Treasure" I woke one morning with a phrase going round and round my brain as though it were on a loop; "It’s a working treasure" and I knew what it meant in an instant.
If you visit the Tower of London you can go and see the "Crown Jewels" which are described on it's website as "...the greatest working collection of Crown Jewels in the world and priceless symbols of British monarchy" meaning that they are constantly on display for anyone to see. And I got to thinking, this should be the same for any one of us attempting to live the life of Jesus here on earth? All the things that we treasure about our relationship with him whether its intimacy, worship, forgiveness ought to be on display at any given time so that people looking in or rubbing shoulders with us can see that we're different and pursue that kind of change for themselves.
It’s a working treasure that Jesus has given us and I don’t think we can fully understand what that means until we completely surrender, draw on our wills, and make it our choice to press in and make our life about him instead of about me. That’s what I’m working on because increasingly I find myself wanting to put all these things and more on display not because "I have to", but because "I want to".
